The Sunday Times Johannesburg 15 February 1998 reports that well known
photographer HERMAN POTGIETER along with several other journalists
were killed when a Pilatus PC XII in which they were travelling from
Switzerland to South Africa came down in heavy mist 30 km. out of
Nairobi. They were travelling from the game reserve at Masai Mara to
Nairobi to join a sister ship which had experienced problems en route.
I will always remember Herman for his excellent work with the South
African Air Force. His photography whether the subject was supersonic
warbirds or old stalwarts like our Harvards and Daks always brought
out their unique characters. Herman always had a new angle from which
to shoot his subjects.
Calendars for Pilatus
More Than Game (A tribute to the SAAF on it's 75 th aniversary)
The annual SA AIR REPORT
The SAAF Poster Book
The World of Deutshe Aerospace
Aviation in South Africa
My deepest condolances to the Potgieter family and all at Air Report
To whom it may concern,

Could you kindly let me know, where I might obtain these 3 books (below). These books were a gift, when he moved from residence the box containing these books got lost, he was heartbroken and have been searching for these books ever since. There are a personal note written in the front pages of these books, ( To Colin... ), if I might ever be so lucky to get those back. But just being able to obtain these 3 books, would be so great!

Switzerland to Johannesburg at something less than 300Kts?
Quite a slog.

Herman and I both grew up in Durban but only met when we were both sent to Bloemfontein for Army training. We became very close during this time but lost track until after we both married and had moved to Johannesburg.
From 1981 until his death we kept intouch, had many dinner parties in both JHB, Cape Town and Sydney Australia. Herman was a great man, a great friend and a great photographer.
RIP MY FRIEND.

Tracy I have only just seen your email and I have no idea how long it has been since you sent it.
As far as I am aware Jackie pass away earlier on this year 2019.
I lost touch with her when we moved to Cape town in 1982 but remained friends with Herman even when we moved to Sydney
on 1988.
Sadly Had no contact with Jackie or their son Paul who should be between 26-32.
