A rare Cornelius XFG-1 "Mallard" Flying Gas Tank to be towed as a
glider. Only a few prototypes were completed in 1945 but were
cancelled. They were built by Spartan Aircraft.
Interesting to note that these would have been piloted whereas the
German idea was for an unpiloted towed winged fuel container.

What was the intended use, feerying fuel over the hump? Trying to keep
ground forces supplied with fuel to prevent a repetition of the
situation in Europe in the Autumn of 1944 (Patton to Eisenhower, "My
men can eat their belts, but my tanks gotta have gas!")?
